South Boston

South Boston is a densely populated neighborhood, located south of the Fort Point Channel and abutting Dorchester Bay. Known by many as the setting for movies such as Good Will Hunting, this once predominantly Irish Catholic community has become increasingly diverse in recent years with the emergence of young professionals and families who are attracted to the neighborhood’s strong sense of community and easy access to downtown and public transportation.

People from all over the city enjoy taking a stroll around Castle Island, a Revolutionary War-era fort and 22-acre park that is connected to the mainland. “Southie Pride” is on full display in March when city residents flock to the neighborhood to enjoy the annual South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The Seaport District of South Boston has emerged as its own separate neighborhood, and the area surrounding the Broadway Red Line MBTA has welcomed a number of new residential developments including the Court Square Press Building, Macallen Building and Allele Lofts.
